Donation Given to Cassia County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit
Burley, Idaho – Valley Wide Cooperative and Valley Agronomics LLC, donated $200 to the Cassia County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit program. The money will be used for purchasing equipment which will be used for training. The K-9 program is extremely important in extending the department’s ability to track down, and catch, criminals and drugs. Dogs are good at smelling and sensing things that humans cannot, as well as get in and out of places that are either more dangerous or difficult for the officers to get to. On one occasion, an individual who was trying to escape from the police, crawled into the space under a trailer home, and the Cassia County K-9 named “Krieger,” was able to go in after him and get him to come out, enabling the officers to make the arrest without having to be in an even more dangerous situation under the trailer. “Our unit is here to help serve and protect,” stated Sheriff Jay Heward, speaking of the K-9 Unit. Krieger is also used at traffic stops to help sniff out drugs in vehicles, that officers otherwise my have not known or been able to find.
